High School Artist Competition

Eligibility

Full-time IFS Participants only.  All IFS flutists who have not reached their 19th birthday by July 1, 2019 and are in high school or have just completed their senior year. Those selected from the recorded round to continue as finalists in the competition must registered full participants in the International Flute Symposium to compete in the live final round.

Competition Application Deadline:

June 10, 2019.

Notification of recorded round results will be made via email by June 20, 2019.

Competition Entrance Fee:

$40

Complete our Competition Form and then send your competition application fee of $40 via a check made out to West Virginia University to:

Audition Requirements

One or two solo or accompanied contrasting works of your choice.  Works submitted may total up to 15 minutes in length.  CDs must be marked with your name as well as the track numbers and titles of the works contained on the CD. Materials due June 10, 2019. Notification of recorded round results will be made via email by June 20, 2019.  

Final Round

One or two contrasting, unaccompanied works of their choice totaling less than 10 minutes. Etudes are permitted. The Final round will be held during IFS.  Exact times and schedules TBA, when students arrive. Winners will be announced at that evening’s gala concert. Contestants will receive judges’ comments.

Awards

First Place: $50 award, a 50% 2020 International Flute Symposium auditor tuition discount, and a solo performance at IFS closing ceremony concert.
Second Place: 50% 2020 International Flute Symposium auditor tuition discount.
Third Place: 25% 2020 International Flute Symposium auditor tuition discount.

At the judges’ discretion, prizes may be shared.


Emerging Artist Competition
